Why Enterprise

A business climate with a story behind it.

When the boll weevil destroyed the cotton crop, Enterprise didn't wait for it to come back. Farmers planted peanuts, the county posted the nation's largest harvest, and in 1919 the town built a monument to the pest. That is the local definition of progress: adapt first.

Today the economy rests on four pillars you'll recognize from the Chamber's logo: commerce on Main Street and along the Boll Weevil Circle, Army Aviation at Fort Novosel, a downtown with real history, and the agriculture that still feeds the region. Enterprise State Community College and Troy University's SBDC supply the talent and the counsel. Low unemployment and a growing population do the rest.
